What is Abyss Gear?
Abyss Gear is a special enhancement system in Crimson Desert that lets you embed powerful effects into your weapons and armor through sockets — from elemental damage to passive stat bonuses.
The Abyss Gear system unlocks in Chapter 3: a white crow leads you to a cave in the Meandering Hills north of Hernand, where you meet the apprentice witch Sylvia.

Abyss Gear comes in two types:
- Named Abyss Gear: Unique active effects like fire damage, homing orbs, shadow slashes, and more
- Tiered Abyss Gear: Ranked I / II / III and Greater, providing passive stat bonuses

How to Get Abyss Gear
1. Monster Drops
The following enemies drop Abyss Gear:
- Wandershrubs — also drop Abyss Cores and Energy Cores
- Grave Walkers — found northwest of Longbranch, drop Abyss Gear and Abyss Seeds
- Abyssal mechanical enemies and turrets — pick up with Axiom Force after defeating them
2. Treasure Chests
Chests scattered throughout the world may contain random Abyss Gear:
- Floating island chests (contain Destruction I Abyss Gear)
- Broken tower top chests (random Abyss Gear)
3. Combat Challenge Steles (Goyen's Advice)
Stone steles scattered across the world present combat challenges that reward Abyss Artifacts and Abyss Gear:
- Bow Aim Destiny V — knock down 5 enemies simultaneously from 20m+ with a bow
- Ground Impact II — defeat 10 enemies with a two-handed hammer/axe without taking damage
4. Back Alley Merchants
Masked goblin merchants sell specific Abyss Gear (such as Abyssal Rays). These merchants are found in hidden locations throughout the world.
5. Witch Questline & Crafting
Progressing the witch faction questline unlocks Abyss Gear crafting recipes. At a witch, you can also synthesize two Tier III Abyss Gears for a chance to obtain Greater Abyss Gear.

How to Embed Abyss Gear
You cannot embed Abyss Gear yourself — you must visit a Witch NPC. Witches offer the following services:
| Service | Description |
|---|---|
| Create Socket | Add a new Abyss Gear socket to a weapon or armor piece (costs silver) |
| Embed Abyss Gear | Insert Abyss Gear into an existing socket |
| Extract Abyss Gear | Remove Abyss Gear from a socket (free, no damage) |
| Craft Abyss Gear | Combine lower-tier Abyss Gear for a chance at higher versions |

Tip: Abyss Gear can be swapped freely at any time — there is no permanent binding.
Crafting & Synthesis
Witches offer three crafting tabs:
- Crafting — Create new Abyss Gear from materials (butterflies, Abyss Cells, gemstones)
- Synthesis — Combine two identical Tier I → Tier II, or Tier II → Tier III
- Special Synthesis (Fusion) — Fuse Tier III Abyss Gear with a 4% chance to get Greater versions
