WORLD MAP OVERVIEW
Crimson Desert features a massive open world split across 5 distinct regions. The total map size measures approximately 90 kmΒ² (9,500m width Γ 9,500m height), with the vast majority being explorable landmass. This places it among the larger single-player game worlds β comparable in scale to mainline Assassin's Creed titles.
Beyond the surface map, Crimson Desert also includes a Sky Map composed of floating islands (similar to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom) used for puzzle challenges, plus over 100 caves and numerous underground locations. When factoring in this multi-layered design, the actual explorable area reaches roughly 100 kmΒ².
THE 5 REGIONS
Hernand β The central and largest region. A diverse territory featuring rolling plains, dense forests, coastal cliffs, and frozen mountains. This is the primary setting for Chapters 1 through 6 and home to the Greymane Camp, Hernand Castle, and most major faction headquarters.
Pailune β A volcanic northern region dominated by lava flows and harsh terrain. The setting for Chapter 7, featuring Pailune Castle and the climactic battles against Lava Myurdin and Ludvig.
Demeniss β A desolate wasteland region with barren landscapes and dangerous wildlife. Offers challenging exploration content and unique faction quests.
Delesyia β A lush, forested region known for natural beauty, ancient ruins, and the Delesyian contribution system. Provides a striking contrast to the war-torn Hernand.
Crimson Desert β The titular desert region. A vast, arid expanse filled with hidden dangers, ancient secrets, and extreme survival conditions.
HOW TO REVEAL THE MAP (CLEAR FOG)
By default, the entire map is covered in grey fog. There are two ways to clear it:
- Ring the 8 Bells β Each bell removes the fog around its surrounding area, revealing a large chunk of the map at once. This is the fastest method.
- Walk everywhere β Manually exploring an area also clears the fog, but this is much slower.
Tip: Prioritize finding and ringing the 8 bells early. Each one reveals a significant portion of the map and saves enormous amounts of travel time.
FAST TRAVEL POINTS
Fast travel points appear as blue icons on the map. To activate them:
- - Find the pressure plate on the ground at each location
- - Stand on it to activate the fast travel point
- - Once activated, you can teleport to it from anywhere on the map
GETTING AROUND
- - Horse β Available from the start of the game. You can ride to any location on the map.
- - Dragon β Unlocked later in the story. The Blackstar Dragon allows you to fly freely across the entire world, making exploration and revisiting areas significantly faster.
- - Fast Travel β Use activated blue travel points for instant teleportation.
THE SKY MAP
In addition to the ground-level world, Crimson Desert features floating sky islands accessible at certain points in the game. These islands contain:
- - Puzzle challenges
- - Abyss-related content
- - Unique rewards and lore
The sky islands are self-contained areas rather than part of the continuous open world, but they add meaningful vertical exploration to the game.
