他の鳥よりも遥かに早い時間から活動を始める鳥。夜明け前からせわしなく飛び回り、さえずりを響かせる。このさえずりは、縄張りを守るためだけでなく、仲間のスズメに餌の在り処を知らせる役割も果たしている。毎朝、誰よりも早く目覚める働き者である。
