땅속이나 바위틈에 굴을 만들어 사는 도롱뇽으로, 촉촉한 피부와 길고 부드러운 몸을 지녔다. 습하고 그늘진 환경을 좋아하며, 주로 곤충이나 작은 무척추동물을 먹는다. 번식기에는 물가로 나와 알을 낳으며, 나머지 시간은 굴속에서 은신하며 생활한다.

During the breeding season, it comes to the water's edge to lay eggs, and for the rest of the time, it lives sneaking in the burrow.
