건조한 환경에 서식하는 야행성 두꺼비. 대부분 시간을 지하에서 보낸다. 이름에 걸맞게 굴을 파고 그 안에서 생활하는데, 이는 삽처럼 생기고 힘이 강한 뒷다리와 견고하고 튼튼한 몸 덕분이다. 비가 내린 후나 밤에 먹이를 찾거나 번식하러 밖으로 나온다.
An amphibian that spends most of its time underground. True to its name, it digs burrows and lives within them, a feat made possible by its shovel-like, powerful hind legs and its solid, sturdy body. It emerges only to seek food or to breed at night or when it rains.
