목 주변에 큰 부채 모양의 목도리를 펼칠 수 있는 파충류로, 위협을 느끼면 목도리를 펼치고 입을 벌려 상대를 놀라게 한다. 길고 가느다란 몸과 강한 다리를 지녔으며, 나무와 땅 위를 모두 빠르게 이동할 수 있다. 곤충과 작은 동물을 먹으며, 건조한 지역이나 숲 가장자리에 서식한다.
