땅을 파는 데 특화된 작은 포유류. 삽처럼 생긴 커다란 앞발과 강력한 발톱을 갖고 있다. 시력은 좋지 않지만 촉각과 후각이 워낙 뛰어나 길을 찾고 먹이를 추적하는 데 아무런 문제가 없다. 두더지들이 파는 땅굴은 흙에 숨구멍을 만들어 주고 곤충의 개체 수를 조절하는 등 생태계에서 중요한 역할을 한다.
Moles are small, burrowing mammals with specialized digging adaptations, such as large, paddle-like forelimbs and powerful claws.
