迷你的身體長著密實尖刺的夜行性動物。食慾旺盛，光是一個晚上就能吃掉相當於自身體重三分之一的食物。雖屬雜食性，但主要捕食昆蟲與幼蟲。據說在某些村莊偶爾會看見刺上插著金蘋果的刺蝟。
