The General's Tomb is located in northwest Pailune. The Forgotten General is classified as one of three "Overwhelming Beings" β€” she can kill you in two to three hits regardless of your defense.

Prerequisites

The Slumbering Soul cannot be accessed directly. You must complete four Pailune faction quest chains in order:

  • Pailune Militia quests β€” Including Crossroads of Succession, Dark Shadow Engulfing the Fort, Nest of White Feathers, Bloodied Path, and liberating the Ridgehunter Tannery
  • [Skoghorn Tribe](/guides/skoghorn-tribe-white-horn-boss) β€” Deep-Rooted Sorrow + White Horn boss fight
  • [Longleaf Tribe](/guides/longleaf-tribe-quest-guide) β€” Complete the full Longleaf quest chain
  • Odeck Tribe β€” The Slumbering Soul quest becomes available

This progression spans from roughly Chapter 6 through Chapter 8+.

Boss Fight: The Forgotten General

After accepting the Slumbering Soul quest, travel to the General's Tomb in northwest Pailune. Entering triggers the boss encounter.

Recommended Loadout

  • Weapon: Two-handed sword (Vow of the Dead King recommended) β€” high crit rate, fast stun meter build-up
  • Armor: Frostcursed Armor or high ice-resistance gear β€” her ice attacks inflict Frozen debuff that slows movement, which is a death sentence
  • Abyss Gears priority: Critical Rate > Stamina Regen > Focus Regen >> Defense (defense stacking is pointless, she kills in 2-3 hits anyway)
  • Consumables: Hearty Meals, Palmar Pills (revival without boss HP recovery β€” bring several), Explosive Arrows (1000+ if attempting ranged strategy)

Core Strategy

Primary combo: Fire Imbue + Turning Slash. The Forgotten General is highly susceptible to fire stagger β€” this is the fastest way to break her stun meter.

Key principle: stay aggressive. If you create distance, she deploys wide AoE attacks that are harder to dodge. Fight her up close, land 2-3 hits, dodge her counter, repeat. When the stun meter breaks, unload your highest-damage combo.

Ghost Soldier Phase (Critical Mechanic)

When she taps her spear on the ground, she becomes invulnerable and summons charging ghost soldiers. There is no safe ground.

Survival technique: Jump β†’ Triple Force Palm for maximum height β†’ Glide in wide circles above the arena until the ghosts disappear.

Critical: Stamina management. Running out of stamina mid-air means falling to your death. Make sure stamina is near full before the jump. Keep Spirit Potions ready.

Ranged Cheese Strategy (Possibly Patched)

Previously, players could Force Palm onto a wooden beam above the arena and rain 1000+ Explosive Arrows from safety using the Infinite Arrows Abyss Gear. This was patched in PS5 version 1.01 and may no longer work on PC either. Don't rely on it.

Rewards

  • Odeck's Protector Full Armor Set (5 pieces) β€” with pre-slotted legendary Abyss Gears (better than the exploration-collected versions which lack legendary slots)
  • Awakened Soul Weapon β€” matching themed weapon
  • Mysterious Gift β€” collectible item

If you already collected Odeck armor pieces through exploration, the quest reward is still given β€” they don't conflict. The quest version has better Abyss Gear slots.

Tips

  • Palmar Pills are essential β€” revival without boss HP recovery means each pill is an extra life. Bring 3-5.
  • Ice resistance is mandatory, not optional. Frozen debuff = can't dodge = dead.
  • Don't get greedy. Her counters are lightning fast. Hit 2-3 times, dodge out, repeat. This is safer than going for long combos.
  • Ghost phase: fly, don't run. Ground movement will get you killed. Jump + Force Palm + glide is the only reliable survival method.
  • This fight is supposed to be hard. Dying several times is normal. Learn her patterns β€” that matters more than gear.
